In
Sickness and In Health, Til Death Do Us Part!
This
Page is Dedicated to My Dad
My
Unsung Hero
Those
words uttered so long ago. Little did my parents realize how profound
they would be.
My
parents were very dedicated to each other as well as to my brother and
I. Family was their whole universe.
Trying
to spare us, for a long time Dad hid all the problems he was having with
Mom. Their visits became shorter and less frequent.
It
was a long time before we realized that Dad had taken over all of the household
tasks. The cooking, cleaning, washing and other daily chores.
We
get so wrapped up in our lives that sometimes our vision is clouded.
I was married with 2 small children and it was logical that they would
visit here rather than attempt to drag everything to them.
The
tears, the fears, the frustrations and horrors of Alzheimer's he kept hidden
for a long time. When it finally began to take it's toll on his health,
only then did he relinquish his control and ask for help.
Dad
died on April 15, 1996. Less than two months short of their 50th
Wedding Anniversary.
Mom
joined Dad on what would have been his 84th birthday, December 26, 1996.
Their
vows spoken on June 28, 1946 were kept to the end!
