I am not a specialist on Alzheimers, I was a caregiver and the sole purpose of this site is to assist people in Northeast Florida find the information and services that they will need to be an effective caregiver. The information I am providing is readily available and it strictly up to you to investigate and make your own decisions.
While searching for a background for this site, I was really looking for something that would indicate friendship. However, this set seemed to be more appropriate. Having been a beginner caregiver, I could have wished for nothing more helpful than finding a beacon to guide me on my way.
I hope this site can be your beacon!
Your number one priority should be to take care of yourself. This seems like a simple statement but it is the most important and the one that most people neglect. Remember you are embarking on a very emotionally and physically taxing responsibility.

You are going to have a lot of mixed feelings. You will feel lost, alone, angry, exhausted, exasperated and it is at that time that you will need the most help. Support groups are a wonderful source of information as well as the emotional support that you will undoubtably need.,
There are two completely different types of support groups. The in person type support groups for people who like the personal contact. The NE Florida Support groups are located all over the city and some groups offer caregiving for your loved ones so that you can attend the meetings. These will be listed later.
Some people
feel uncomfortable exposing their feelings and emotions to strangers. I
am one of those people but our need for support and comfort is no less
than anyone else. A wonderful alternative is the many excellent online
chat groups that specialize in Alzheimer's or Eldercare Caregiving. I will
also list some sites for you.
